Summary
This article explains about a new rare bird being recently identified in Brazil. This took about 20 years to gain enough evidence to classify itself as a new species. This bird has been threatened to deforestation and logging by humans. The bird's species has been classified as the mouse-colored tapaculo. In 2010, the original name has been changed to the rock tapaculo. Even with this new name, scientists found out that the rock tapaculo was unlike the other two species of tapaculo so they were unclassified for a while. Now in 2014, they have given the bird a new name Bahian mouse- colored tapaculo. This species has been considered endangered because of the species population being lower than 3000. |
Reflection
This article makes us realize that a very long process goes into naming a species. It may take up to over 20 years just to classify a type of bird species. This species has been recognized by scientists because of its endangered population. We are now faced a challenge to help people acknowledge the fact that what we do can endanger species in only a few years and hope to help people realize that they need to protect nature to keep our organisms alive. |
